Produce illustrations of the object whose design you wish to protect.

Prepare and file the design application form “Antrag auf Eintragung eines Geschmacksmusters” . Please use the form “Wiedergabe”  for filing the illustrations.

You can file a multiple application for up to 100 designs falling within the same class of goods. The official attachment sheet  “Anlageblatt” must be used for this purpose.

Applicants having neither a domicile nor an establishment in Germany must appoint a patent attorney or an attorney at law in Germany as representative. This representative may also be a national of a member State of the European Union or of a State party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, provided that a patent attorney or attorney-at-law, resident in Germany, has been authorised to receive service of official communications.

We will send you a receipt containing the official file number and the filing date of your application.

If you have appointed a representative, the receipt will be sent to your representative.

Upon receipt of the filing and publication fees, we will examine your application to see if it meets the formal requirements, and also carry out a check whether it may be protected, on principle, by a design right.

If the application complies with the requirements, and defects, if any, have been remedied, and if the design is eligible for registration, it will be entered in the Designs Register.

The Designs Register is an electronic register. The registration of the design will be published on the electronic publication platform DPMAregister.
